Representative Career Experience

Tighe & Bond, Westfield, MA 2011-2022

Responsible for structural and architectural engineering design and construction administration work on a number of civil engineering projects, including flood control pump stations, wastewater pump stations, drinking water treatment plants, dams and retaining walls. Frequently acted as Structural Engineer of Record for structures built in Massachusetts. Building envelope improvement work included design of replacement roofs, windows and doors for drinking water treatment plants and for several schools as part of the MSBA Green Repair and Accelerated Repair Programs. Also performed structural design and construction administration for a new athletic facility for Yale University’s women’s athletic program. Performed project management duties for smaller projects including budgeting and budget monitoring, Division 0 specification sections, bidding administration, reviewing pay requests, and assembling closeout documents.

Arup USA, Inc., Cambridge, MA 2006-2011

Responsible for planning and execution of design tasks including but not limited to:  representing the structures team at design workshops and meetings, coordination with other trades, performing detailed design calculations, proposing and investigating structural schemes and design options, supervising drafting operations, investigating existing structures, and interfacing with contractors and inspection agencies.

Symmes, Maini & Mckee Associates,
Cambridge, MA 2004-2005

Worked part-time, performing structural design on a number of projects while attending school full-time at Tufts University. Projects included a series of three-story wood-framed condominium buildings with a steel moment frame lateral load resisting system in one of two perpendicular directions, a four-story structural steel-framed medical office building, and a two-story structural steel-framed laboratory building addition with a vibration-sensitive occupancy.

Tufts University, Medford, MA 2004

Worked part-time for the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, grading homework assignments for the Advanced Structural Analysis course. This frequently required doing the same problem several times to give partial credit to different students who had made minor mistakes in the initial stages of solving a problem.

CBI Consulting, Inc., Boston, MA 1997-2004

Started as a drafter and oversaw the implementation of CAD drafting standards. Eventually became a structural designer. Responsibilities as a structural designer included structural design, coordination with architects, construction administration, and eventually some project management tasks. Projects included many different kinds of buildings, from single-family houses to school buildings to eight-story hotels.
